Position : Web Application Developer
The Perks
- Work from home. You can live anywhere within a 30-minute drive of Springfield, VA.
- Use the latest hardware. I will buy you a top-of-the-line desktop computer like this one. And since your office is your home, you can do whatever you want with it on nights and weekends.
- Blazing-fast Internet. I will pay for the Internet at your house, even if you share with roomates.
- Work on interesting projects. You'll have 1 day per week where you get paid to work on anything you want, just like Google.
The Requirements
- A solid knowledge of Java, C++, C#, Python or another mainstream object oriented programming language. I will not hire based on specific languages or technologies; I expect you to quickly learn whatever tools are appropriate for the task.
- A solid command of written and spoken English. Outstanding writing skills are a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of humor.
- A Bachelors' degree in something relevant. (Note: requirement intentionally left vague.)
Example Projects
In addition to serving the needs of local business and non-profits, you will also work on pet projects of mine. Many of these are in conjunction with Dan Birdwhistell and the outstanding folks at The Dropstone Group. Examples:
- Improving upon the design of Fly Little Bird to make it more of a community site, with user-submitted tags and speeches.
- Re-engineering the Media Archives product offered by Digital Divide Data in ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005.
- Writing a project code-named "MillionMug" in Ruby on Rails.
